 The team
uniform includes a team suit, swim cap, and team t-shirt.
Although not required, swimmers are
also strongly encouraged to purchase the team warm-up suit. In
addition to wearing the warms-ups on deck at meets, team members
often wear the warm-ups in the team photo and occasionally to school
on the day of a meet. Other spiritwear items are also available for
purchase. Click

Bags
and parkas will be issued to all team members prior to the first
meet. The bags and parkas will be the property of each swimmer for the
duration of the season and are to be used only for Robinson Swim
& Dive meets and practices. Swimmers and divers are responsible
for the care of the bags and parkas issued to them. Team members are
expected to replace lost or damaged bags and parkas as the result of
negligence on their part. Bags and parkas must be returned prior to
the winter banquet and will be redistributed the following year. Bags
should be wiped clean and parkas should be dry cleaned before being
returned.
VHSL
Regulations about the Appearance of Competitors
In addition,
Virginia High School League (VHSL) rules are very strict about
uniforms and the appearance of competitors. Each year debates and disqualifications
occur at the district, region, and state level over the rules about
modesty, advertising, and jewelry (see section on VHSL regulations below).
These rules are enforced even at dual meets, however. Robinson almost
lost a meet one year when the modesty of a relay team member's attire
was challenged by a stroke and turn judge. The relay team's points were
critical to winning the meet. So, please read the rules and take them
seriously.
VHSL
Regulations require the following:
- A competitor
shall not be permitted to participate wearing a suit that is not of
decent appearance. Boys shall wear trunks that cover the buttocks.
Girls shall wear suits that cover the buttocks and the breast.
- Competitors
shall not be permitted to compete in attire (suits and caps) that
includes advertising or a name other than the name and/or number of
the competitor, school, or mascot except one visible logo/trade name
not exceeding 2 1/4 square inches in any dimension. An American flag,
not to exceed 2 by 3 inches, and either a commemorative or memorial
patch, not to exceed 4 square inches and with written state association
approval, may be worn on each item of the uniform apparel provided
neither the flag nor the patch interferes with the visibility of the
number.
- A competitor
shall not wear jewelry (except religious/medical medal, which must
be taped to the body) or objectionable attire. Hair restraining devices
are considered legal, provided they are functioning and are being
worn in the hair during the event. A hair tie worn on the wrist is
considered "jewelry."
