Hi, my name is Philip Caslavka and I am a Government teacher at Franklin Middle School and am beginning my second season as the Head Coach of the Swim and Dive program. I am a recent graduate of Radford University (May 2010) where I received my degree in Education with a concentration in Secondary Social Studies. Currently, I am the Head Coach of the Armfield Farm Stingrays and an Age Group Coach with the Herndon Commanders. I have been an assistant coach for several other Swim and Dive programs in the past, including the Oakton Cougars and Chantilly Chargers Varsity Swim Team. I have been swimming since I was 4 years old and was captain of the Chantilly Swim Team when I was in high school as well as a regional qualifier. My specialty is the 100 Butterfly, but I consider myself to be a well-rounded developmental coach. I also served in the Marine Corps where I learned many different techniques to motivate and lead other individuals and groups of people. My experiences as a Marine, a teacher, and a coach of many different sports have completely molded my coaching style which would be self-described as: disciplined, technique-driven, and fun-oriented. I truly believe that the best way to help a swimmer improve is to work with them individually, help them to develop goals that they want to achieve, and then doing whatever I can to help them achieve those goals through the use of motivation and camaraderie, technical drills, competitive strategies, and conditioning exercises.
